Use DMC’s distinction

DMC’s finished-needlework guidance says to consider fabric and embellishment instructions as well as thread. Its general cross-stitch guidance uses gentle cold-water handling and a warm iron, not a universal hot-wash rule.

Keep Aida scope narrow

The DMC Aida product page permits 60°C washing with mild detergent and low-heat pressing with a cloth, while also requiring attention to all project materials. That fabric statement does not override another thread, trim or printed design restriction.

Leave Kona care unverified

The exact Kona page checked here did not establish a product-specific care chart or shrink percentage. Ask the maker or seller before a treatment; we do not copy Aida’s instructions onto quilting cotton.

Resolve component conflicts before washing

The Aida product page and the general finished-embroidery guide address different scopes. An additional thread, printed design, backing or embellishment may require another approach. Do not select the hottest temperature appearing on any one component page and apply it to the whole project. Kona-specific care remains unverified in this record.

Start with a component inventory

List the exact fabric, each thread family, any printed design, trim, backing, adhesive and finishing material. Find the applicable maker instructions for each. The DMC Aida page is evidence for that selected fabric range; the general finished-embroidery guide addresses a broader handling context. Neither supplies missing care instructions for an unidentified embellishment or another manufacturer cotton.

Use the table as a scope check

The care table intentionally contains different instructions and an unknown. It is not a menu from which to choose whichever temperature is most convenient. If component guidance conflicts or is missing, seek product-specific advice before washing or pressing. A printed design or a material that is not washable can change whether immersion is appropriate at all.

Separate cleaning from shrink planning

A care instruction and a shrink measurement answer different questions. Permission to wash a fabric under stated conditions does not quantify how much a received cut will change. Likewise, a user-entered shrink percentage in our tool does not authorize a washing method. Keep the care decision with manufacturer guidance and the geometric assumption with your own planning record.

Before you decide

  • Keep family, color/SKU and actual quantity
  • Separate nominal, usable and assumed measurements
  • Read component care and current seller conditions
