Use exact observed offers
FQS displayed DMC 310 six-strand at$0.98 for 8.7 listed yards, and Ecru pearl cotton size 5 at$1.89 for 27.3 listed yards on November 4, 2026. These are different constructions and colors.
Keep the original length
Using those listed yards gives about$1.13 and$0.69 per 10 yards. It does not establish that the pearl thread is a lower-cost equivalent to two strands of floss or that their coverage is equal.
Do not claim a price history
The observed amount and a list price are not a measured historical saving. Shipping, tax and promotions remain separate conditions and actual availability can change.
Compare like denominators first
The observed black floss price is$0.98 for 8.7 listed yards; the ecru pearl price is$1.89 for 27.3 listed yards. Per 10 listed yards that is about$1.13 and$0.69. The lower number does not make pearl a cheaper equivalent of two-strand floss:construction, working thickness and use differ.
Use the whole order price
For three of the observed black skeins, the displayed merchandise subtotal is 3 x$0.98=$2.94 before tax and delivery. The listed original length is 3 x 8.7=26.1 yd. Dividing$2.94 by 26.1 and multiplying by 10 preserves the same approximately$1.13 per 10 yd denominator. Do not divide one skein price by the three-skein total length.
Delivery can change the purchase
The observed price table omits unverified shipping and checkout tax. If one seller has a small merchandise advantage but a higher delivered total, you need the actual checkout conditions to compare those orders. Enter or record real charges only after checking them; an advertised free-shipping threshold does not establish that a particular order qualifies.
Keep a loss model out of the product label
The strand tool can calculate a cost per modeled working meter after your chosen loss. That is useful for a personal scenario, but the resulting price is not the merchant price per original skein meter. Save the chosen strand count and loss next to the modeled result. A different working method can change that scenario without changing the seller offer.
Before you decide
- Keep family, color/SKU and actual quantity
- Separate nominal, usable and assumed measurements
