Keep the source of each input

Enter the actual design stitch width and height and the effective stitches per inch of your selected fabric. Use your own design or an authorized pattern; our tool supplies no copied design chart.

Add margins on both edges

A 2 inch margin means 2 inches on the left and right and 2 on the top and bottom. It adds 4 inches to each stitched dimension, not 2 inches in total.

Separate later allowances

The result does not silently add seam, hoop or framing allowances beyond what you entered. If a shrink assumption is supplied, it is reported separately rather than concealed in a final exact-looking number.

Add each edge separately

A 140 x 112-stitch rectangle at 14 effective stitches per inch is 10 x 8 in. A user-selected 2 in margin on every side adds 4 in to each dimension, resulting in 14 x 12 in. The margin belongs on both opposing edges; adding only 2 in to the width would omit the allowance on one side.

Write a complete calculation line

For the hypothetical 140 x 112 design, record 14 effective stitches per inch, 10 x 8 in stitched dimensions and your chosen 2 in on each edge. The cut line is then(140/14+4)x(112/14+4)=14 x 12 in. Multiplying each final inch dimension by 2.54 gives 35.56 x 30.48 cm. This is a reproducible geometry record, not a physical measurement of a finished object.

Use the actual setup before rounding

Keep enough precision while calculating and round only when deciding how to obtain a suitable cut. The tool displays two decimal places; that display is not a guarantee of millimeter-accurate seller cutting. If an order comes in fixed increments, compare those increments with the complete required rectangle, not just its stitched area. Confirm any needed continuous width and length.

Transfer the rectangle carefully

The layout planner expects a rectangle that already contains all allowances you intend to use. Copy the appropriate cut dimensions, not the smaller stitched dimensions. If you modeled a pre-shrink requirement, decide whether that is the rectangle being purchased and label it accordingly. The two tools do not silently transfer or duplicate allowances on your behalf.

Before you decide

  • Keep family, color/SKU and actual quantity
  • Separate nominal, usable and assumed measurements
  • Read component care and current seller conditions
